I installed the sport-comp in my 79. Used the 2 1/16 size. Hope this helps.

Pat,

I'm going to install 2-1/16" gauges in my console too. I am going to eliminate the clock since my head unit will have one. I'm also planning on adding some switches to control various things and replace the useless warning lights with LED warning lights for low oil pressure, high coolant temp, low fuel and alt.

I made a template to cut an aluminum cover that I'm going to laminate with walnut veneer to match my Deluxe interior, but it could be kept bare or painted.

Here is a JPEG of the template:

The inner circle is 2-1/16" diameter and the outer circle is the 2-13/32" existing gauge opening. The upper tab has to be cut off in order for it to clear the wiper switch housing, and the lower tab can be bent around the bezel radius or cut off.

If you want it, I have the drawing in PDF (so you can print it to scale) or the AutoCAD drawing If you have AutoCAD and want to move things around. Just P.M. me with you E-mail and I will send it to you.

David

David,

I've been contemplating this myself. May I ask, how is the aluminum cover attached to the existing panel, and, what are the tabs you mention? Are they existing, or a part of the new cover.

Thank you,

Michael

I haven't decided how to attach it yet. I am either going to epoxy or screw it on. The tabs are the areas beyond the dashed lines. The area above the upper dashed line is part of the existing bezel but is under the wiper switch/vent housing. Once I made the cardboard template I realized that it would have to be cut off so that there would not be any interference. The area below the lower dashed line is the part of the bezel that angles back towards the radio. If I can get a good looking bend then I will keep it. If I cant then I will just cut it off.

I put in 2-1/16" gauges and eliminated the clock too.

Here's how mine came out:
