Does anyone know how difficult it would be to convert an automatic to a 4spd? I already have a Borg&Warner Super T-10 4spd from a '73 vette I owned a few years ago. Specifically, I know the tranny crossmembers are different - but I can't remember if the crossmembers are bolted in or tack-welded... is it hard to swap these out? Also, how hard is it to change out pedals and add the pivot fork? Would I need to cut a new hole in the transmission tunnel? Anything else I am overlooking?? I have been looking to buy a 70-72 C3 for about 2 months now, and I can not help but notice the utter lack of reasonably priced 4 speeds (both locally and on the internet, i.e. eBay)... thus I have resorted to considering an auto conversion. Thanks!

I'm in the middle of exactly what you want to do. I was lucky and found a 79 4 spd car that was being parted out and got everything I need at one time. My car is an 80. I have ordered all new " wearable parts" including the cross bar bushings and washers. The 80 uses a bolt on mount to the frame for the cross bar. You will need to get and weld on the tab. The steering column must be removed and the pedal support to change the pedals. The actual pedal mount bracket is the same for auto or 4 speed. If you want to see all the parts go to Dr. Rebuilds site , he has a great diagram on page 96. If you need any other info send me a PM and I'll probably be able to answer it. I have seen pedals and bellhousings on e-bay several times. The Auto shifter sits in a "pocket" in the console, you must cut a hole for the 4spd shifter. Some C-3 have a plug in firewall for linkage from pedal to cross bar. Mine does not and I have to drill hole. I have a template for this hole
I'm just finsihing the 4 speed swap in mine now.
I too am using a later Super T10, there was no cutting involved as there was a grommet in the firewall for the clutch linkage and there was already a cover over a hole in the trans tunnel.
I bought a complete swap package off of a guy locally, trans/bellhousing/pedals/linkage/shifter/shifter plate/ flywheel cost me $1000. Pretty easy job really...especially as the auto crossmember is bolt in.
