Default Oil Cooler

Installing an oil cooler on the 454. The kit I bought was not specifically made for the Corvette. It has hard lines that won't fit. Can I just cut the hard lines where I need them and clamp-on some flexible black hose? If so, are there pressure issues (hose or keeping the lines clamped on)?

you should be able to use regular hose and clamps, just like on an automatic trans cooler.

I wouldn`t use a hose clamp on my car.....your oil pressure is what ??60lbs and an auto trans is 7-10 lbs..........

Default Hoses...

I just did this on my Corvair. I mounted a remote cooler w/fan, bought bulk pressure hose, 6 AN fittings for each end and it came out great! Cost me around $100.00 dollars for hose and fittings.

If you use your existing lines, use a flaring tool to make a 'fat' spot right near the cut end to hold the hose when you clamp it on. Not as good, and not my preference but you could probably get away with it.

I had a friend that used hydraulic hoses from a farm supply store .... seamed to work OK. Didn't leak and were oil resistant.

I ordered special 300psi x 1/2" ID(250psi specified by cooler manufacture)hose from Napa. Though it is red. Cooler fittings are 3/8"? to 1/2" barb. Works fine. Someday everything goes AN, when I win the lotto.
