I really need some help with smoking. I got paint overspray on the inside of one of my M94A collector edition T-Tops. Well, it was stubborn coming off so I (stupidly) used a kitchen pad on a portion of the glass to rub the paint spray off and I scratched the BEE-GHEEZUS out of the smoke film on the inside glass. Is this a film or what? There is a company that says they will restore for $500 bucks, but gosh, I just need to do the one panel. The wx. strips are new and the panels are otherwise near perfect. Can someone tell me how I might make them at least look better? Where I scratched it, the glass is clear and see-thru. I would rather not make it worse, but hate seeing my stupidity on a daily basis when I get in....

Many, many thanks in advance.

IF,they are truely glass tops, you can maybe use jewelers compound to get the scratches out. But later T-Tops beyond the rare M 1131 type are like plastic and you are up a creek. You may be able to take them to a shop that does auto glass window tinting, and in fact, take it there before doing anything more.

if they are acrylic there is a scratch compound that u rub on ...works nice...3 levels of compound.......eastwood cataloug might have a glass buffing setup.......u can always get them tinted afterwards
Thanks guys, but here's the rub-no pun intended....I doubt the GLASS is as much scrathed as the bronze tint or smoke film has been scratched. These tops are mirror from the outside and bronze tinted/smoked from the inside looking out. I think it is like having a tinted window where just the tint is scratched off in places. It is awful thin film or maybe a chemical translucent application on the inside of mirrored glass- I presume, but certainly don't know for a fact. I would guess that somehow I will have to remove all the inside tint and re-do somehow. If it is a film, I have no idea where to match the color or the thickness.
Bill,
Sorry to hear this, Yeah they are glass, and yeah it is a film. Don't hold your breath about matching it 23 years later...Sorry!
My suggestion, try to find a replacement for now, If you scrape it off and have it re-tinted locally, your going to have to do both sides to get a match. Even sending it off is probably going to get you two different colored tops.
BTW, Not to rub it in, but thanks for posting this, I will now be a lot more careful when I clean mine...
