I went to our local Chevy dealership to get a new oil drain plug gasket, but the one that they sold me is copper & paper(?)... The parts person said that they had changed the design. Well this gasket looks nothing like the original, which is plastic and actually fits around the edge of the head of the drain plug. Does anyone know if I got the wrong part, or was the parts person correct? I am a little concerned because of the visual differences.
what is the part #? I got some a while back that were GM... don't know the part# offhand ( I will go look) but they were metal washers with rubber on the inside.

It is metal with rubber on the inside... I wrote this from work and just remember that it looked like heavy cardboard stock(paper), much like gasket material.

the one they reccomend at Napa is paper-ish, but i have a copper one on my 79 right now, havent touched it since i got the car except to do a oil change or two, other then that it doesnt leak a drop. dont mess with it if it doesnt leak or else it will give you trouble you dont wanna deal with.
