I have them both removed from my '73 coupe and they appear in good shape.
I spun the brass bushing by hand on the tach and it spun easily without binding. and the best part is I got needle deflection.
On the speedo I did the same thing with similarly good results including the needle remaing steadily deflected with constant RPM of the brass fitting. The trip Odometer however will not reset using the cable.
What else can I do to troubleshoot these?
Anybody know what I can do with the Trip Odometer?
And lastly has anyone ever taken one apart?
I have seen somebody's post on here recently about the odometer with pictures etc. Search for speedo gear and you may find it as that is what I was looking for
do you have the rubber tip on the re-set ****? you need it to turn the trip meter,, mine was a real bear to turn so i put a air fitting over the knurled fitting to get leverage on it and broke it in,,then i ordered a new rubber tip and was amazed how i couldnt re set it without the rubber tip on...once i put it on it workes real e/z ... i can reset it while sitting in the drivers seat,,,the air fitting im talking about is the one thats screwed into the bottom of your air tool the side that you put into the hose will fit perfectly over the knurled **** of the reset **** of your trip meter(with the rubber tip off!!!) you'll get a lot of leverage on the cable and break it loose,, if you want you can try to lube the cable at this time,,, i didnt the leverage alone broke mine loose
