After pulling in the driveway with my '71, I heard a hissing sound. We all know that hissing sounds are not good. Well I open the hood and what do you know. I have a leak in the radiator. I've noticed it losing water when it's driven, but it wasn't losing a whole lot. I thought it was just coming out of my overflow as I don't have my reservoir hooked up. You could see it actually coming out of the radiator. I took it to the radiator shop this morning to see what they could do. Seems like every time I fix something, something else tears up.
A good shop should be able to re-core it for much less than a new one.
Good luck ... the saga of owning a classic car.
I actually like it - just not the surprise part.
Becareful of what shop you take it to. The things are pretty fragile and can be turned to junk in a hurry. Too much time in the dip tank or too much pressure when testing will distroy one.
Well, got my baby back this afternoon. Runs great. I took it to the same shop my family takes all their vehicles to for cooling issues. They do good work, very fast, and CHEAP!! Turns out, I had THREE holes in the radiator in the third section. He was able to patch them up. Only $135...not too bad for work on a Vette.
