Default Tru flex bumper installation

A couple of questions on bumper installations. I have removed enough of the original front bumper backing to get the new piece to fit but what backs up the front license plate holder. Is the bumper strong enough to hold it. The second question is on the rear. When I went to install it the bumper is off by a strong 5/8 of an inch in length. The only way I can see to make it fit is cut it and reglass it together. Is normal resin acceptable to use on a truflex. The bumper is from Toledo Pro. I have tried contacting them but am not having much sucess.

First off, what year? I replaced mine F & R on my 74 coupe with Truflex. I had nominal fit - up issues. On the rear, I was not off more than 3/8", and only in one spot, which I corrected by adjusting the new bumper, and a little bodywork. The front was more touchy, and I had to take it off and on a couple of times to get it aligned pretty well. I had no issues with the license plate, bracket, or anything else. Is your car original? has it been hit? do you have the right year replacement bumpers?

The year is 1975. Since its a one year bumper it appears to be the correct one. I presently have the entire car striped for paint and there is no evidence of it ever being hit. The factory bonding strips are still in place on both rear quarters along with the factory seam sealer. The amount the bumper is off is uniform. If I slide the bumper all the way to one side the shape matches perfectly but there is 5/8 of an inch between the other side and the quarter. The same is true if I slide the bumper to the other side.

That's a lot to be off by. Sorry - I don't have the answer
to the materials needed to bond the Truflex back together.
I can say that I have a 75 fiberglass rear bumper that was
made by Ecklers ... fit my car perfectly.

Hopefully you will hear from Toledo Pro and resolve the issue.
I'll try to measure my bumper tonight and get back.

Good luck.

I did hear from Toledo pro on the bumper fit. This is their response.

Hmm
I apologize for your inconvenience.
I've been told that the rear deck is slightly bigger on some of the cars made in 1975.
I guess your options would be:
1. Use body filler to build up the bumper
2. Return the bumper.
If our product doesn't fit your car I doubt if any other aftermarket bumper will either.
I apologize again.

I guess now I'll have to cut the bumper into three pieces, get the proper alignment and glass it back together. They claim any polyester material is compatible.

Cool - sounds like you are ready to move forward.
Sorry - too busy last night to get a measurement.
If you want me to measure this weekend, send me a PM.
