Default Replacing Heater Hose

Need to replace my heater hose (73 350w/ air)...are there stubs on the engine-side of the firewall or do you need to access the heater core under the dash?

Any advise would be much appreciated!

Just to change the hoses alone can be done from the engine side, but an A/C car may require you to get almost underneath the passenger side floorboard to get at where the hoses connect to the heater core.

You will want to be gentle with those "stubs" when replacing the hoses. Use a razor blade to carefully remove the hose ends. Good luck.

You need to jack the front end up and use (2) jack stands if you don't have a lift. The hoses are right under the passenger side of the firewall. Make sure you cut them off. You may have to take the rock guard off to gain access if there is still one on your car. Don't try to pull the hoses off unless you want to replace your heater core while you are at it. Like others have said get yourself a new razor blade and slit the hose along the area that is connected to the heater core and gently take them off. Get yourself a can of spray silicone to spray in the new hoses when you put them on. They will slide right on really nice after spraying. Don't try putting them on dry. Use 2 new stainless hose clamps and your are good to go.

There are 2 different sized heater hoses and the originals had a formed elbow at the heater box end. Gates makes the hoses with the formed elbows and they are available at most auto parts stores.

I have always used standard black 5/8" and 3/4" heater hose cut to size without any problems since the 70's.

Just as I did a few months ago, use an exacto knife to cut the hoses, they are 5/8" and 3/4" hoses and no pulling them off...
