A little while back, I had my '71 painted. I noticed when I got it back that the front of the passenger side headlight was about 1/4-1/2" below the body of the car. I tried to adjust the bolt up where the headlight comes down onto which stops it from going down. Well, it broke. I tried to put some PB blaster on it and run two nuts up the bottom side of it, but the first nut only goes a little ways up (I guess the threads are old and messed up). What do I need to do? I really don't want to take the headlight assembly out if I don't have to. Is it hard if I do have to? Thanks for the help.
The down position adjustment can be done a couple of ways. The easiest is the jack screw on the linkage (I think this is a long 5/16-24 screw with a small square drive on the end). This adjustment screw has a hex on the other end, if you can get to that you can adjust there. If this screw is stripped, you will have to replace the link and screw.
If you don't want to pull the entire headlight assembly, the linkage can be removed with the headlight in place. If you remove the counterbalance springs you can probably see how to do it. Lots of time on your back working through a hole.
