Default Power window return spring install - advice?

I've got to replace the coil spring in the power window unit of my driver's side door. I ordered the spring, but it came with no instructions. I'm sure I could blunder my way through it and figure it out, eventually, but I figured somebody on here has done this and can tell me what not to do....

Must the window motor be removed from the door? What's the best way to tell when you have the proper initial tension on the spring?

I just replaced mine a few months ago. Obviously, take off the door panel. I removed the window. It may be possible not to, but I don't see how. Remove the window scissor frame mechanism. The spring fits into a slot in the center of the mechanism and the end slides over a peg. I got the spring over the peg by putting the mechanism in a vice, grabbing the end of the spring with channel lock pliers and pulling the spring over the peg. Make sure you put the spring on right side up. It will go on backwards. Don't ask me how I know, but it will make your window go down really fast .

Good luck
