I installed a 700R4 in the car from Bowtie Overdrive. I bought the bracket to mount the rear of the trans. Has anyone installed this with their rear bracket. Did you have to shim up the top of the bracket to the mount to keep the drive shaft straight? Or did you mount it directly from the mount to the bracket. I had to shim up so the drive shaft was straight. When I mounted it directly to the bracket I had a bad vibration.

i didn't have to shim anything....i did have to elongate one of the holes inthe mounting pad that goes in between the trans and crossmember to get the trans centered better

the bracket was from BTO and the driveshaft will actually be a straight line from the tail shaft to diff....but the drive shaft will not be parrallel to the frame rails...i think this is what you are seeing, remember the engine is offset to the pass side to begin with.

I remember doing all this the simple way back in '97, took the 700 and set it on the bell housing, take a framing square and note the offset from rear tail mount to the centering holes.....
did the same with the muncie/bellhousing setup....
lowered the mount saddle by the same amount, and also moved the bolt holes to the rear....
Thanks all, I will remove the shims and set the trans. rear mount directly on the rear bracket. It just looked like the drive shaft was not straight. The front universal also looked like it was closer to the tunnel on one side than the other. I was concerned that the universal would hit the side of the tunnel as well.

you should rotate the drive shaft by hand and make sure that it does not hit anything....some of the fiberglass tunnel guys have had to cut a hole and refiberglass stuff....i have just enough room for clearance for a finger....say 1/2" maybe even less then that

who/wheres the guy who said his 4th gear OD was hanging on below 40 mph and creating lugging at 1200 rpm? we need to talk...i see what you mean on this....

Yes I noticed on the passenger side of the tunnel where the heat shield is it looks like the front universal joint has been rubbing. I wonder if the rear trans mount (which is new) may be flexing from side to side causing the universal to rub.

i had to elongate one of the holes on the trans mounting pad so i could move the tail over just a little bit to give me more clearance..

You can mess around with the tranny's valve body...or you can simply put it in 3rd in the city, and only let it into 4th on the freeway.
I've lived with it for 3 years...and it becomes second nature.
yes its clear to me whats happening....coming off the highway i will be slowing down but still going fast enough for fourth gear, I step on the brake to slow down the TC unlocks and then when i come off the brake it locks up so i go to accelerate....and i'm doing 38mph and doing 1200 rpm.....maybe i will play a little more with the TV cable cam adjustment
Did you guys have to modify your exhaust with the Bowtie overdrive crossmember? I had to modify my factory exhaust because the crossmember sat lower than the original crossmemeber for the 350. The reason that I ask is that I want to install duals and I was wondering if I could purchase an aftermarket bolt on kit that would bolt on or would am I better off going down and having the local shop manufacture me an exhaust?
Thats what I ended up doing. I made the holes wider to the side so I could get the tranny over more to the drivers side. I still want to remove all the shims I put under the trans. rubber mount to bracket and hope it lines up properly. It just didn't look straight but when you are laying on the ground looking up nothing looks straight.
