Muncie Transmission leaking
why is there a hole on the bottom of the spindle on the front of the transmission? its leaking out fluid and i have no idea why this hole is there, is it some kind of overflow or something? it definately looks like its supposed to be there. can any one help me out here? thanks - Bob

Bob, I think you are referring to the countershaft that appears below the splined shaft and support housing on the outside. It is about the size of a nickle and fits flush with the trans case. If my description fits, the trans oil is weeping from around the countershaft. There are no other holes in the case. A simple solution is to find an o-ring that fits into the chamfered grove around the shaft. Or, find one that is close and cut it to fit. Clean the grove well with lacquer thinner and apply an oil resistant sealer into which you place the o-ring. Immediately after doing this, bolt the tranny to the bellhousing, this will compress the o-ring into the grove and seal your leak. I have done this to my tranny and solved the leaky problem.

the hole im talkin about is a hair smaller than a dime and it faces directly towards the ground. it is part of the cover that surrounds about 3-4 inches of the spline.
