Default Info on head light doors

I have a 79 L82, 350 with 4spd. I just completed a front suspension rebuild, including new radiator and brakes etc. When I started the car, without turning the headlights on, the headlight doors popped up and won't go back down (lights go on and off with switch). As far as I can tell none of the vacum lines are pinched and I don't recall intentionally disconnecting any wires. Can anyone steer me in the right direction to fix?

Headlights going up & down is strictly vacuum, no wiring. The system is setup so that vacuum keeps the lights down, so if you lose vacuum they come up and you still have headlights. Sounds like you have a leak somewhere. Here's a great troubleshooting article that should give you a place to start your search, good luck!

Thanks Komoman! After reviewing the information you provided, I now know that the little **** just under the steering column is the manual override valve which I mistakenly pulled while messing with my seats. I pushed the **** up (closed position) and the doors are working properly again. Many thanks for the reply!!!

Great when it is so simple to repair. Sure beats going through all the valves and headlight switch.

Glad it worked out so easy for you, Bob! Now if only my slow-opening left headlight were so easy to fix!

Would like to return the favor, but I'm new to vette's and have more to learn than I know. Thanks again for the link. I'm sure it will come in handy in the future.
