Default Paging Suspension Gurus

Ive come to some conclusions about what Id LIKE to do suspension wise, but am just looking for a bit more guidance on a few things. I know this stuff comes up a lot and Ive figured a few things out, but I still have no real info on this kit or what else Id have to do to make it work. Any insights are much appreciated.

First, Im quite set on the Guldstrand 5 bar suspension. Its not very common, but it looks like a soild piece of engineering and it would certainly improve performance hugely. Now, with this kit here its obvious that there are a LOT of parts Im going to have to figure out for myself. My question has to do with what else Im going to NEED back there and how Im going to make it fit. To be honest, I dont even KNOW whats back there as it is with this kit, so any input from those who have done or are working on similar things will be hugely appreciated. Hah I know I look like a grand ignoramus picking things out without totally understanding them, but hey, Im working on it.

Also, if I go with a transverse front composite mono, is that the best choice with a 5 link in the back like this? Im really quite interested in going as high quality and as modern as I possibly can without cutting into the frame. Welding is fine, but Im still trying to keep the 72 original, but modern, trying to have my cake and eat it too.

As always thanks in advance.

This system can be used with stock drive line components. It is really just a replacement for the stock trailing arm/camber rod system that has less toe steer problems. You work with these cars enough you can see how lacking the rear suspension really is.

yea fair enough on that, so would this system also eliminate the problems with putting on larger wheels and tires then? Im still trying to figure out what I have to add to it to make it fully functional...

You won't be able to put on significantly larger wheels by geeting more offset, the frame rails are the next obstruction.

As for the improvement, that kit does offer vastly improved (superior) toe control, better than the C4 toe control where the center mount on the lid is in the wrong position (during travel this mis-positioning still leads to toe changes). The camber control is still stock like w/ the halfshaft as the upper member. If you want to have great handling that kit may be a good idea but rod ends are prone to wear and need to be replaced much more often than ball joints, they aren't cheap either (if you use quality rod ends), all it takes to install the kit is to weld the 2 lower mounting brackets on the frame so that the forward trailing rod brackets are fastened to the frame by that additional bolt and the original thu-bolt for the trailing arm.

That sounds like a pretty decent option to go for then. Could I still use a sway bar? Do you think a heim-jointed end link would be best for that? I like the idea of matching up as many Guldstrand parts as possible to the 5 bar kit, theyre fairly brilliant with the bolt on parts near as I can tell.

Im also wondering again about the coilover situation with this kit, how would they work in conjunction with it?

I know I sound I bit E tarded here but what exactly does this kit replace and what does it not replace? Thanks again for the help understanding it guys, I think Im getting the picture.

I don't think you'll be able to get this kit. It does list it for 63-79 &80-82 but I believe there were some problems w/the 80-82's and they stopped it. The problem was where the plate mounts under the diff. Obviously it's different for 80-82 car but was never completed. You may want to call and check 1st. Also you will have to cut your frame rails and weld in reinforcements. If you are capable of doing this, this project should take you about 40 hours to complete.
