I have a stupid question... Is it possible to build up oil pressure at higher RPM's and have an oil leak only when you have your foot in it? Does the crankcase pressurize? I only run about 50/60psi going down the road on my worn 350. Seems like I've developed a leak that I only "smell" occasionally. Couldn't see anything from the topside (so I didn't think much of it), but when I crawled underneath to change the oil my freakin' headers were stained and the bottom of the car was wet. Looked like the timing chain cover was leaking where it meets the oilpan!? Should the oil fill cap be vented? Does it matter? I could hear the PCV rattling like normal... does ANY of this question make sense??
The crankcase does pressurize.. It's even worse if your rings don't seal perfectly... Open style breathers might help, but a crankcase evacuation system is best against crankcase pressure. However, such system only works with open exhaust...
If your PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) is functioning, there should be no need for regular breathers. At higher RPM the oil pressure will be a little higher AND if your front seals are seaping the balancer could be flinging it into the path of the headers.

Has anyone built or added a crankcase evacuation system to their car using a smog pump and oil catch resevoir? I would think it would be pretty simple.... I could add an electric smog pump and resevoir rather than mess with pully driven.
