Default Hmm...what should it be??? (performance)

I'm thinking of adding something performance wise to my '71. I have the TH400 tranny. I've had the 350 rebuilt, bored .020, new cam (.462/.482 int/exh with 219/229 lift at .50 duration), edelbrock aluminum high rise intake, edelbrock carb, hooker ceramic coated headers, and that's about it I believe. I've been reading a lot of posts and haven't thought about the idea but apparently the rear end is a good place to start. I've also thought about replacing the edelbrock carb...not really sure what cfm it is off the top of my head...and going with a holley or demon. Do you think this should be an option? Also, I'm thinking about getting some of the Summit heads with the vortec combustion chamber along with roller tip rocker arms at the same time. I'm planning on doing one thing at a time because of funds. What do you guys think I should do? Rear gears (mine are stock), heads and rocker arms, or carb? Thanks for the help.

You most likely have a set of 3.08 gears. A 3.55 gear is great for an auto car but it will increase your highway rpm and mileage. A good set of heads is the best improvement over stock you can make. Heads are what makes the HP. Headers will improve your breathing as will a good dual exhaust system.

Unless you're having a problem with your carb, I'd put that one on the back burner. Your $400 is better put towards heads and rear gear. I'd go with heads first.

Go with the heads. I learned the hard way doing things one at a time. Get your parts together and take it apart once. Don`t waste your money on roller tip rockers. 1.6 rollers are only a little more and you`ll get more lift out of your cam to go along with those new heads. I just finished the last of the mods on my 75. heads were a huge change, I also put 3.70 gears in & headers with 2.5" pipes [no cat] magnaflow mufflers. If you want roller tips e-mail me. After about 1000 miles I put in the 1.6 rollers.
