Default Printed Circuit Removal

Since I have checked everything else on the car that I can think of with regard to dash lights not working , I am going to go ahead and pull the printed circuit and look at it. Does anyone have some good basic instructions on this so that I don't tear the delicate thing up?

you won't tear it, just take the fasteners/bulbs out and it comes right off. takes about 15 mins to swap it out for a new one.

I have not had a 79 vette apart but have taken mine out of my 77. also several other makes. The printed circuit is fairly durable but you have to be careful when you remove the wire harness plug.

Did you guys have to drop the steering column to be able to get to that plug that you are referring to?
I can't even see that plug up there?

I know I need to replace the printed circuit board in my '78. Checked it and found some breaks in it when I replaced the headlight switch awhile back. At that time I pulled the speedo/tach panel, very difficult to get out from the dash with the steering wheel there. Can the circuit board be reached from the back without pulling the panel? Should I drop the steering wheel? KEEP DRIVING!!!

I just replaced this on my '78, I was able to get the cluster out without dropping the column. I had enough clearance to reach behind and disconnect the speedo cable and wiring harness. When removing the circuit, the only part I would be concerned with is the clips that hold the circuit to the tach, they are a little stubborn to get out, may break the connections if not careful..

Place some painters tape on top of the column to prevent scratches it's a tight fit to pull the assembly. Loosen the two bolts under the dash as much as possible, extend the the steering wheel out(if optioned),Pull down on the wheel/column as you wiggle the unit out.Watch the tabs on the top.The wires on the back are not very long so you you will have to reach behind to unplug the connector,it runs vertical in the center, press on both sides, you may have to do this on feel alone. hope this helps.
