Touch up paint question???
Hello,
I was taking my t-tops off yesterday and I chipped the door just the smallest bit. Maybe the size of a pin head. I have some touchup paint (some paint left over from when I painted the car), but I was wondering if there were any tricks to apply it.
Should I use a brush?
I have heard to use a toothpick or the end of a match.
I have also heard to use a q-tip.
Is there a right way to do it?
Are there any tricks that work?
As always, all suggestions are welcome!
Thanks in advance for your help,
Joe
After I got the trimming tip I was able to do an acceptable job.Thin the paint before you try to apply it. Put some on then wait till it is dry before adding another coat. Build up the thickness untill the new paint is above the suface of the old paint. Let it dry a few weeks. Get a very small hard rubber block and block the blob down with wet sanding using a very fine grit so the blob is flush with the surface. Buff it out with progressively lighter compounds untill you get the surface smooth.
There are small touch-up kits out there with special hand rubbing compound that produces amazing results with only hand pressure and a soft cloth. You still need to have matching paint to work with it but the compound is worth the price of the package alone. I have no idea what is in it but it realy works if you follow the directions.
Hope this helps,
-Mark.
