Default Tire sizes for '75 Stingray....Please Help!

Hello,

I need some assistance regarding tire sizes for my '75 Stingray. I know that the factory original size is 225 70 15. I just purchased a set of
15 x 8.5 aluminum American Racing 15-spoke cyclone wheels with Corvette center caps and I am looking for a good tire combination for the car.

Right now the car has 225 70 15's on the front and 235 60 15's on the rear on 15 x 8 factory rally wheels.

I was thinking about keeping the 225 70 15's on the front and trying to go with 245 60 15's or 255 60 15's on the rear. However I don't know if the 245 60's or the 255 60's would work on the rear...I am concerned about clearance.

Any help and / or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks,
RJ

you can run the 245 on front without any problem, and certainly no problem running the 255's on the rear...ditch the 225 70's

I put a set of BFG TA's (245/60/15) all the way round on my '79 last year and have been happy with them. No rub on the front at all.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I should have asked this in my initial post...but didn't think of it...

Any pictures with these tire combos?

Thanks,
RJ

255/60/15 all the way around w/factory rally wheels on the 75 in my sig pic. Very slight front rub at full right lock. FWIW.

Hope this helps.

255/60R15 's here. No rubbing. More pics in my gallery.

They are the same height as stock so it avoids speedo errors.

The Radial TA's are OK but I will not be buying new ones (thinking Yoko's).

Steve,

Hi...this post was from a week or two ago. I just wanted to check again...on the BFG Radial T/A's 255 60 15...no rubbing problems at all on the front?

Actually...my car already has the 255 60 15 on the rear...not worried about that. Just concerned about the front. I read from another forum member that there is a slight rubbing on the front when turned to lock position. They will be going on a 15 x 8.5 inch rim.

I hope you don't mind me asking again...just wanted to be sure before ordering the tires.

Thanks,
RJ

My last set of tires on the 75 were 255/60r15's on the rear with no problem and 245/60r15's on the front with a 8 inch rim. I took the 255 off of the front cause there was a slight rub when I turned the steering to hard. I now have 275/50r15 on rear and 265/50r15 on the front, but had to rework the emergency brake cable as we all know.

RJ,

I have no rubbing with 460# coils, cut 1/2 coil. However, the build tolerances on these cars is such that one car will rub were another will not.

Hey REDBAD1979! You just had to post your picture, didn't you! My car needs repainting, and the wife is insisting that it be painted red. I want to keep it black. You are not helping my argument!!!!! Very good looking car.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the post. Ummm, I run 255 all the way around. No clearance problems.

My car came with the 255/60/15's on it when purchased so I will live w/the slight rub until they need replacing. You just learn not to turn the wheel full lock. However that said when the time comes, I'll probably go w/245's on the front.

I would also think that by going w/a 8.5" wheel vs the 8" stock rally that you may find that what works/doesn't rub using the 8", might just touch w/the 8.5" due to the slightly wider profile that your going to end up with. FWIW.

Good Luck!

Well...after much thought, I think I will go with 245/60/15's in the front and 255/60/15's in the rear on the 15 x 8.5" wheels.

With the luck that I have... 255/60/15's in the front are sure to rub...I really don't want to deal with that. From the sounds of it... the 245/60/15's on the 8.5" wheel for the front should be fine with no rubbing problems. I would assume that it shouldn't throw the speedometer off by all that much.

I'm thinking that I will get the BFG Radial T/A's. I had them on my '86 Monte Carlo SS and had good mileage with them.

Thanks,
RJ

The front tires don't affect the speedometer.
