Default 3/4 clutch in 700 going again..

Well guys, this willl be the LAST time I"m putting a 3/4 clutch pack in this tranny, it's on the way out again....engine is only good for !420 ft lbs, so the tranny should last, but it don't....it's a late '87 unit with the aux valve body, Superior shift kit, and fance new improved throttle valve....supposedly heavy duty 3/4 pack went in about allmost 3 years ago or so....now it's slipping occationally again.....

SO, is there ANY cure.....thought I read about something to do with the large valve servo? on the side of the tranny being out of time or something, causing overheating of the 3/4 clutch pack, and some mods to do to get better oiling up in the clutch area....better cooling...

any comments from the smart guys??

if not, hell with it, I"m going 2004r and have done with it, smaller and lighter anyway....

will the converters interchange??

Gene maybe your 800 rpm stall converter is contributing to this.....

Well, should be less heat buildup with 800 rpm than 2000 rpm stall....

dunno, really, it's what's put in pickups, course they fail like crazy too...

Sounds like you do not have enough line pressure to apply the clutches and hold them.

I would get a pressure gage and start looking in that direction. A better servo will help.

Make sure the TV cable is set right.

There is a retrofit that adds a few more clutches to the 3/4 pack. Pretty standard for a hi-po build on a 700r4 these days.

A larger TV boost valve and larger line bias valve will help also, along with larger servos, 1-2 and 3-4. Blue plate clutches are the best on the market in my opinion.

If you modify your trans according to the article above, you should have a rock solid trans even with a 800 rpm converter!!
