I'm thinkin I'd like some Hedman (or other) headers and the 68-69 style side pipes on my '80....anyone been thru this and is there any special mods necessary or is this a "bolt on operation". ? Thanks in advance.
I cut the leading pipes off a set of allens stock mufflers, and had a shop bend some pipes and welded a fitted set straight to the muffler with a collector on the other end, and it bolted right up with my headers.
redshark...
how does it sound/perform after u put on the headers?
its loud..i don't have the header wrap on it anymore (which kinda quieted it down at idle) .now at idle its mean sounding...but it sounds its best at WOT or anything after 4000rpm. Just sounds like a badazz. I'm actually looking for something louder and i'm playing with a trick set of dynomax bullets and stainless works chambered pipes...see which is louder and sounds the best.
did u notice a difference in performance at all? the reason i ask is because we are thinkin about doin this same thing except with our ow custom 3 inch piping and spiral baffles for out HP motor
Do you have room to install a crossover (or X-pipe) into your side pipe setup? If you do I would try that as it makes a big difference to the sound, and performance.

Performance sucks with these mufflers...I can definitely feel some HP when i take these off and run straight off the header, but I can't stand the sound of no mufflers..Hence another reason why i'm switching to something different. However, i can pull the pipes off in about 10minutes. Spiral baffles would be the way to go, Let me know how that works out for you.

I can't see how you can install a crossover or H pipe with sidepipe setup, unless you have one long tube bent around under the tranny to hook up, and then theres ground clearance issues, and dont know if a long tube like that would help or defeat the purpose.
