Anyone try to remove the idler arm on a BB with headers? I got the steeroids kit from the group purchase but looks like i may choose not to install it. Too much work to remove the headers on the BB.
I did mine, but had the headers out
Amazing how much room those headers take up
my passenger side headers come out in 10 minutes
I got the re-useable copper gaskets so I can do them as needed
You should be able to do it without removing headers
After removing the 2 idler arm nuts the bolts push put through the fraome so it can drop straight down
Headers are not hard to remove on my bigblock but for the idler arm they don't need to come out. Just remove the bolts. Probably your bolts are from the inside out and no outside to inside. I actually taped the holes in the idler arm the next size bigger so I could just use short bolts through the frame bracket and directly into the idler arm with no nuts on the inside to touch the headers.

Wow, I thought this was a problem on a small block. I can only imagine this mess on a BB engine. On my 350, my headers are about 1/8" from touching the idler arm, at most.
My big block headers fit alot better then most small block headers. There is no problem removing/installing. They just about fall into place from the top or bottom.
