Default Carpet installation question

I finally got around to putting the front carpet in this weekend, but I have no idea how the seatbelts are supposed to come through. Could anyone help out? Pictures would also be appreciated! Thanks.

I did mine a few month ago and my belt pass on the outside of the carpet between the door sill and the carpet.
Mine is a 75 and the plastic cover plate is under the carpet, not on top but invisible under the carpet. The seat belt also has a wire guide the is bolted to the side of the sill holding the seat belt to the outside. The carpet fits under the sill but the section where the seat belt passes from under the carpet is not under the sill leaving a small gap for the belt to pass through. You need the wire guide to prevent the seat belt from pulling up the carpet.

Thanks.

I don't remeber removing the wire guide when taking it all apart. I also don;t remeber how it looked, so I was a bit in trouble.

Is the wire guide sturdy enough to hold in the event of a short stop or would that give and take part of the carpet with it?

This wire guide is about 1/4 inch thick and is held by 2 bolts with inserts in the door sill. Yes it is very sturdy. Without this guide the belt would pull on the plastic cover which could break.

Norval's 75 is way different that your 68...go figure, huh?

Do you have the carpet out yet? How about the seats?

For the outboard seatbelt...
There is a stamped steel guide plate that bolts to the floor and rear bulkhead (three bolts total) UNDER THE CARPET. The guide plate is on the outboard sides and guides the belt from under the seat, where it's anchored, to the opening in the carpet just under the door sill. It's curved and plated (or used to be). There should be a large rubber/plastic grommet in the carpet through which the belt passes. The grommet is about 8"x2" and I haven't found a source for replacements...not that I've tried very hard since I still have mine...as ugly as they are... The grommet may not be visible with the seats still in place.

Inboard sides:
There is a small hole cut in the carpet which allows the mounting stud to peek though. The belt anchor bolts directly to it OVER the carpet.

Sorry, no pictures.

CGGorman -

That makes so much more sense. Mine is definately metal. I don't rember pulling it through the gromment when I was removing the old carpet...I may have to make something up then. & yes - everything is out of the car...I'm just trying to get it back together in an aesthetic manner.

I couldn't even see the grommets with the seats in place. You could easily cut a slit in the carpet about 1" above the floor and leave like that. If you or someone you know is handy with a sewing machine, you could sew some piping or binding to the cut edges.

You might also try Paragon and/or Doc Rebuild for the grommets.
