How do I install a new CD player in the dash of my
80 vette? Will I have to cut up my dash to make it fit?
The old radio does not work anymore and the new CD players
are too wide to fit the old hole.
Thanks

You have 2 choices. Either cut your original dash to fit the new "DIN" standard size radios or buy a replacement dash that has a pre-cut opening to that size. A bunch of the vendors sell them. A little bit of searching in the archives will probably turn up a dozen or more threads to give you more info.
If you want to spend the money on them, they make AM/FM CD players to fit almost all year model vettes. Here is an example of some options from Ecklers.
They are a bit pricey from Ecklers, but its just an example of what is out there, so it depends on how much time and money you want to spend. They offer regular CD players or CD controllers for optional disc changers.
Personally, I bought a nice CD player and just cut my dash to fit with a sharpie and an extremly sharp set of box cutters. It bothered me at first to cut into the dash like that, but they are widely available.
I just installed a new 200 watt AM-FM CD mp3 player with an 8-speaker setup in my '82 coupe--the previous owner had cut the dash when he installed a Kenwood stereo ten years ago--so, my biggest job was just figuring out the wiring hookups, and soldering and taping--took an hour to do it, and it sounds GREAT!!! If you don't want to cut the dash, there are aftermarket companies that make modern "retro" corvette radios that will fit the original opening---I just saw some in Corvette Central's new catalog, and a couple of companies advertise in the Vette magazines....so, you can go either way--though it is probably cheaper $$wise, to cut the plastic and buy your rig at Circuit City!! Happy Listening!!
