Hey guys,
I've got a '71 with a 350. I don't think I have the right hood support on my car. It's been redone several times (put back in) with rivets, fiberglass screws, and other fasteners. There's a couple of threaded holes a little farther up the hood that looks like where the support is supposed to screw in at. I've never noticed these before Is this where you guys' supports go? I don't think I've had the right one on mine from the get go
I had this issue with my car. There are 2 different hood supports for 68-72 hoods. The 68-71 is telescoping and the 72(-76) is scissors type. If memory serves correctly the 72-76 style is longer than the 68-71 and uses holes that are further up on the hood. If you know you have a later hood then you need the later support. If you have a hood that eliminates the wiper door, they probably use the later support. Hope that helps.
Scissor type is 72-76 hoods, telescoping is 68-71. Maybe I was thinking backwards on the length, I'll look at mine tonight. Originally a 71 was telescoping.
