New 3 inch exhaust is in !
Just got it back fron the shop 3 inch stainless steel mandrel bent. Pretty happy with the way it turned out, actually those guys are pros, one guy spent alot of hours on it.
I now have Hooker SuperComp headers with the 3 inch pipes and you can see in the picture an X pipe under the differential and then I have Flowmaster DeltaFlow 40's on the back.
I also have another connection behind the crossmember so I can take the crossmember out withour removing the entire exhaust or I can take the back part the exhaust off without removng the crossmember.
I did not tell them to put the the tips on the corners like they did and at first I was a little concerned but a couple of hours later I think I really like the way it looks
That is a really nice job. That is how I did mine. A series of mandrel bends welded together. It actually will fit alot better then a one piece deal. Where are the cats. You live close to me and we have wondering spot checks and police just love cars without cats. It is obvious and an immediate $450 fine and the car must be towed home. I put a set of high flow 3 inch cats on so I can get past the quick spot checks.
Again it is a nice neat well fitting exhuast.
Nice job MotorHead, are the mufflers considered Stainless also? If you don't mind me asking what did they charge you for the exhaust, and is that including the header? The reason I ask is that when I get mine back on the road I also need an exhaust and I live in Brampton. I think though I may go with the 2 1/2", just a thought.
It looks great! I getting readyto get mine done (1980). What mods did you make to the crossmember to get it to bolt to your frame? I'm fitting mine right now. And are those some type of wekeded brackets or hangers by the openings to reduce rattling?
Edit: My apologies to the preceding post - I didn't mean to pile my question on top of yours.

Thanks, Norval the cops around here don't bother me I don't go too far from home, it could happen I hope it doesn't but I'll tell them the XPipe is the cat.
Couple of answers : the mufflers are stainless steel too. The crossmember from a pre '80 car had to be modified the two lower bolts line up but the one hole on top with bushing that the long bolt goes thru had to be moved over and that cost me $150 I also had a pimary pipe on my header moved over to clear a spark plug for $200, and everything else ( headers, Xpipe, SS tips, mufflers etc ) cost me about 2 grand. There is a heavy duty hanger on each pipe to prevent rattling in the crossmember, 1/4 inch clearance on each side.
Les your gonna love the sound of you "new" exhaust
Nice job. That is also how I did my 3" exhaust also .... used mandrel bends welded together. Unlike Norval and you, I'm lucky and Indiana doesn't require cats on older cars . I thought about using them, but I couldn't find the room easily and it was extra cost that I didn't have to add. By the way, love your car ... one cool ride.

Thanks for the information. Let us know how it sounds when you crank it up!

I was originally only going to put aluminized non mandrel bent pipes on it with the electric cutouts, but when I changed to stainless it was getting too expensive so I the cutouts are going to have to wait, I made sure they left room for them behnd the crossmember.
I am going to put some kind of heat shield protection for the spring in place but I haven't figured out what to put there, I am opoen to suggestions
Motorhead - I wish my system was that nice! With your HP they are just going to rock.
Just one observation. Why didn't you remove the upper parts of the wheel carrier? Mine was out and was never going back in and it gave the muffler man more freedom to mount my mufflers more centered and lower

I am really not crazy about cleaning the underside of the car. Everything under the car is in good shape with no rust or just minor surface rust. I think it looks pretty good for 25 years of dirt. That said the rear is going to be much cleaner in a few weeks when I repace the whole rear end
George, I am putting the spare tire carrier back in and I wanted to make sure the guy cleared it.
