Default Fixed Temperature Gauge

Ever since I rebuilt the motor, my temp gauge didn't work, it always read zero. As it turned out, I was using the wrong wire! I got replies on this forum and the ncrs.org forum that all said the drivers side sender was the temp gauge and the pass side sender was for TCS. Even my wiring diagram said the dark green wire was gauge, black for TCS. The new Summit heads had to be drilled out to fit the bigger stock gauge sender, and since it took over an hour to do one, I only enlarged the driver side head and plugged the pass side hole. Today I tried momentarily grounding the wires and lo and behold, the black wire on the passenger side made the gauge jump! I don't know if my car is weird or all 73's are different, but the temp gauge sender is on the back of the passenger side head! I extended the black wire from the passenger side harness to the drivers side sender and it works! No way I can enlarge the pass side head in the car, and there isn't a good 3/8" sender, so call me bubba, it will remain that way.

That is definitly not right but it is working. I did find a sender to fit into my AFR heads that was smaller. Unfortunatly it took a dump on me this spring and I did not write down the number for it. Back to the auto parts store to see if I can find the right one again. A lot of times Bubba gets into the wiring on these cars and it is tough to find out which wire is which. I'll bet if you start tracing wires you will find out Bubba wired something in that should not be there.
