Default Cam and heads match question

Considering replacing stock L48 heads with SUM-152123 Summit/Dart iron heads.

Should I replace my brand new, but mild Edelbrock #2102 cam with more aggressive cam or could I expect reasonable torque and horsepower gains using current cam? ( 204 int./214 exh. duration @0.050" lift, 0.420 int./0,442 exh. lift, 112 degrees lobe separation)

The car is basically stock 78 L48 with TH350, stock converter, Edelbrock Performer intake, Holley 4165 - 650cfm double pumper carb and 1 5/8" Hedman headers.

I would keep the cam and go with 1.6 rockers and your lift goes up by about .030". Make sure the pushrods don't rub anything the 1.6 RR.Also put on a steel shim head gasket to bump up the compression

Those heads have slots that are designed to handle 1.6 rockers without pushrod interference. But be sure to check anyway.

BTW: The pushrod slots are also machined to act as guides for the pushrods. Do not use guideplates -- they could actually interfere and cause binding! (I checked with Dart, and this is what they told me...)

do you already have a decent intake manifold and headers? If not, those will then be the bottlenecks restricting flow.

I have just bought that cam from Summit aswell, I went with aluminium heads from Edelbrock to match. I didn't want a too aggresive cam just a good mild cam. Anything is better than the stock L81 cam

That IS a mild cam, especially considering the L82 cam is 222/222, with .450/.460 lift.

What are the specs of the L81 cam?

I know the edlebrock is quite a mild cam and I know the L81 cam is a very poor performer, I did have the specs for the L81 cam somewhere but can't find them now

I have that cam & those heads. I used the 1.6 roller rockers. I also have headers into 2.5" true duals with magnaflow mufflers. I`ve got the performer intake & 600 cfm edelbrock carb. It`s got way more power than stock. I just did the heads, rockers, & exhaust 2 weeks ago. What a difference.

L81 and L48 both use GM#3896929 cam: 195/202, with .390/.410 lift

Thanks guys!

I will keep the cam and go with 1.6 ratio rockers.
Is this set of Summit rockers SUM-141507 acceptable?

Can I still go with stock length pushrods?

I used stock length pushrods. For $60 more you can get roller rockers instead of roller tips.
