Default High Flow Thermostat ?

My car is running fine and no problems but I thought I'd ask this. I was running about 180 according to my temp gauge with the original style thermostat. Checked with my temp gun and it seemed pretty close to what the gauge was reading. I installed a high flow thermostat and now my temp gauge is reading about 150 to 160. My temp gun around the motor still says about 180 at different points on the motor. It seems like it is running the same temp only the gauge shows less. I thought my sender might be going bad but a friend just did the exact same thing as me and his gauge is reading lower also. Could it just be more water is flowing by the sender and it is cooler but the motor is just the same temp. I'm not to worried about it just found it interesting that 2 cars are showing less temperature by just changing the thermostat. Yes they are the same temp thermostats. Anybody else have this happen?

I haven't tried this one yet. I know according to the gauge in car, it runs 180 as long as I am moving. The fans kick on around 195 and cool it back to 180. I have the high flow t-stat. I will get my gun out and see what results I get with it.

I bought a high flow thermostat and water pump from Stewarts last summer. Car ran at 195. In the fall when it started getting cool out, the water temp would only get up to about 150. I called Stewarts to see what the problem could be. Stewarts drills 3 extra holes in their high flow thermostats. They sent me a new high flow thermostat without the holes and now I get up to 195 no matter how could it is outside. Have to see how it works in the warmer months.
