My sppedo is 15 mph too fast when at a stop its at 15 mph and anyother time its about 15 mph too fast. Any fix to this? Also my fuel gauge keeps bouncing about 1/8 of a tank. Its somewhat acuurate but not steady like I want. Anyone know any fis for this too?
The speedometer internals need lubrication--use watch oil.
The fuel gauge bouncing is caused by wear in the sending unit. There are fine wires that are in contact with a contact on the float arm. As the arm moves up and down over the years, it wears these wires down to the point where they don't all make contact. This causes your needle to jump.
Well was debating replacing gauges anyway. If I got to take the dash apart might as well make the most of it. How hard is it to replace the sending unit?? BTW thanks for the info
If your sending unit and grounds are ok, then check the gauge. I had the same problem. Turned out to be the fuel gauge.
I learned from an old timer that a fuel gauge is basically a "damper" for the sending unit. Kind of like a shock absorber. A worn out gauge will follow the movement of the sending unit literally. Especially if the fuel level is low.
Since you are going to be taking the gauges out. Take your fuel gauge in hand, and lightly blow on the needle. If the needle moves around easily, the gauge is junk. Blow on it a little harder and it still shouldn't move.
Good luck and let us know what it was.

If the speedo is off by 15 all the time and when you stop it doesn't go to 0 it stays at 15 you need to take the needle off and rezero it.
Now something probably caused that needle slip or internal problems but its worth a shot to just rezero it.
Don't know what year it is but all C3 speedos are mechanical and the needle is on a taper shaft so twisting the needle(holding it at the hub) twist it gently counter clockwise while lifting and it should come off.Needles are fragile so becareful.
