If so, what did you use? Stock setup had exhaust manifolds and a Y pipe up front. I'm using headers so just buying a stock replacement pipe won't work.
I can get pipe bent so that's no problem but I don't know about the 2>1 "y"s and what size cat would be required to prevent too much HP or efficiency loss.
Get the largest cat you can find... stock 2-1-2 is good up to about 300 hp from what I have seen here on the forum and in other tech sources.
Best o luck.
Me, the cats gone and true duals are goin in this weekend.
2 years till emissions, the whole stock system is going in the attic for now!
You can get a high flow cat at Summit or Jegs. I have headers with 2-1-2 and a high flow cat. I does work pretty well. I'm sure true duals would free up some more hp though.

I'm looking at changing the pipes on my stock '80 and thought about going with tru-duals in place of the stock 2-1-2 set up on it now.
There is a dual converter available that is the same size (17" long) as an OEM single converter. It is high flow and had two 2"inlet / 2"outlets and contains two separate systems in the same case. It is available from JC Whitney for $134.00
To me this would be a better way to go than plain stock. I also realize that it is only 2 " in diameter, but it is only 2" in diameter now so no big deal and I will have two pipes going through instead of one.
I also realize that it is illegal in some areas to change the OEM configuration, but I'm not even in an area that requires annual checks on any vehicle and the ones 25 years and older are exempt in the areas of TN that are under annual checks. So let's see, 2005 minus 1980......I just barely made it!

This sounds pretty interesting to me. Has anyone tried this?

I have to get the exhaust replaced on my Stock Vette this winters storage got to it with condensation creating rust. I think I can retain my OEM look while getting a little more power from the L-48 by going to the dual set-up.
I am looking for more information on this converter and to see if I can find out who manufactures it. It has been in the JC Whitney catalog for several years so it must be a seller. I used to buy their salvage returns by the trailer load. If they get to many returns on an item they will drop that product.
Anyway, if I can find more out I will post it. I plan on doing this soon and at the moment I plan on ordering this one unless I find it cheaper and or a better item. Jim
I have true duals right now with 2.5" pipe and PA has decided to start state-wide visual inspection soon on all cars 1975 and up. Smeg.
I have some wiggle room though and despite the lack of other equipment (incompatible with my EFI) I'm pretty sure I could git 'r done with some sort of cat on there be it duals or the legal 2-1-2.
If what Holley says is to be believed I'm pushing 385HP with my current setup so I'd prefer to keep it dual but I want to get my options straight before I talk to my inspector.
Just remember that having two 2" pipes is not the same as one 4" pipe.
A 3" pipe has more area than two 2" pipes. When you double the diameter, the area is 4X as big.

So if I can get a single high flow cat I can run two 2.5" pipes into it while keeping the same effective size?
