Default What mods could I go with...

... to take another .2 - .3 off my ET??

I know that one option would be to swap my Victor Jr. Intake to a Super Victor CNC.. I've been told by several sources (including my engine builder) that this intake would get me at least .2 off my ET.. However, space under my tilt front is tight.. I could fit the Super Victor under the hood, but I wouldn't be able to use a air cleaner. Another mod that could give me added power and better ET would be a dominator carb.. Both mods together should make about a 30 - 40 HP difference.. The Dominator carb is also higher than my 1000 cfm HP series Holley... This means that I'd have to cut my hood and use a scoop... I still haven't made up my mind...
My heads, cam etc. are already pretty radical and I wouldn't expect any significant gains from changing anything in the engine internally...
My exhaust are open 4 inch sidepipes and my primary pipes are 1 7/8..so I don't thihk that I can do anything about that..
My transmission has great gearing and a converter that was built to my cam specs...
I have no idea what else I could do to get some extra ponies and still stay naturally aspired...

I want to make it into 10's NATURALLY ASPIRED. I might put nitrous on the car to get into 9's, but I want to make it into 10's on engine.. I could just wait until November and run 10's without any additional mods... but I'm thinking in doing changes to get into 10's before that...

Oliver, I think you need to tune the combo you have. Have you got the motor to rev right yet? how about the tranny situation?

For the future I would try a Dominator and Super Victor. But untill you get the motor to rev where that cam should be making power (73-7500) you are chasing your tail.

For the Dominator Pro-Systems is very good. Check out their web site.

Good luck,

John

I agree with the above....tune what ya got first, then go spend money. At least see what is possible with what you have now.

You could always put helium in the tires if Norvall won't come drill your car full of holes.

Ditto to everybody else. I'm just curious, how long have you been drag racing? Obviously this setup is still new to you so tuning it (and yourself) can still makes some improvements.

Good luck,
Chris

with the above tune it, out of interest have you started pulling unwanted weight out of the car? or do you still use the car on the road too much to justify gutting the interior?

The tranny situation seems to be solved.. Shifts great now.. Unfortunately, my video was moved to the General section.
The only issue that I have with the Dominator and spacer is that I will need to cut the hood .. I still have to make up my mind about that...
Those mods would definetely get me into the mid 10's and also get the maximum out of the engine. The Victor Jr. is choking the engine right now...

The engine has been dyno tuned before I got it. However, dyno tuning with the engine in the car might give my further improvements.. That's something that I'm considering...

I want to keep the car in street car appearance.. Full dash, carpet etc...
I already stripped just about everything that I don't need and went with all lightweight components..

1) No spare tire and carrier (60 lbs saving)
2) composite rear spring (30 lbs saving)
3) aluminum heads (50 lbs saving)
4) lightweight racing seat and no passanger seat (50+ lbs savings)
5) Tilt front with integrated headlights (eliminating heavy pop ups and hood hardware (20 lbs)
6) removed heater assembly (10 lbs saving)
7) removed sawy bars (20 lbs saving)
8) replaced heater cover with sheet aluminum (5 lbs saving)
9) lightweight wheels and tires. Stock Rallye wheels and tires weight about 55 lbs each = 220 lbs. My front wheels+tires are 20 lbs each and the rear wheels + slicks are 40 lbs each = 120 lbs. (100 lbs total saving)

Here are a few components that added weight:

1) Rollbar (probably 25 lbs or so. Could be possibly more)
2) 12-bolt Rear end with 31 spine axle kit and 1480 u-joints (15 lbs or so)
3) heavier racing driveshaft (5 lbs more)

I still drive the car frequently on the street.. and I'm planning to keep the car a street driven car... The car is just too much fun to be just exclusively a track car

60' time is about 1.550 and the weight should be in the 2850 - 3000 lbs range.. Haven't weighted it after all the changes that I made.. It was 2950 lbs with my old setup...

Dyno tuning would be my next step. That engine still sounds like there is more at the top end.

What is your rpm at when you cross the 1/4 mile?

The engine was dyno tuned before the install. I wonder how much difference a chassis dyno tune would make...
The engine is built to hold up to 7500 RPM, but it's peaking with the Victor Jr. at 6300 RPM... The runners in the Victor Jr. are just too small to deliver enough air for the huge heads... Unfortunately, the Victor Jr. is the only performance intake that will fit under the hood with an air cleaner attached... I pass the 1/4 mile at about 6200 RPM or so...which is very close to my peak HP. However, the HP only drops slowly.. so I have very good power to 7000 RPM..

My car, with way less power, goes lean on the top end either due to not passing enough fuel through the lines or not pushing enough fuel from the pump. I found this out because I have an air/fuel mixture gage connected in the cockpit. Have you got or thought about putting a mixture gage in your car to see what it's doing down track?
