Is there a special socket available for a diff plug?
Just changed my diff oil this morning and used a box wrench to get the plug out. Wasn't fun and I think the plug still needs to go back in another 1/4" although nothing is leaking. I tried all of my sockets but nothing fits. Is there a special socket for this?
I just did mine by pulling the left rear wheel and using a 19mm socket with 2 long extenions was able to remove the plug with no problem . The socket was a 24 point one I think, but it fit
It should be a 3/8 npt flange plug with a 5/8 sq head. The Craftsman 8 pt socket should fit it. Use some sealant on the threads and don't overtighten it. You may or may not know npt threads are tapered, so it will not bottom out.

Thanks everyone for your help. I wasn't aware the threads were tapered. Makes sense why it was difficult to turn once it was seated. Left the car all day with a piece of cardboard under the diff unit and everything dry so far.
