Default 71 door window outer seals

I purchased new door window outer seals for my 71 convertible.......but they are a little longer that the ones that were installed and the holes don't line up.

Anyone know what could be the cause? I know they are different on the coupe but Corvette Central assures me that they sent me the correct ones.

I too have purchased both the inner & outter window felts from Corvette Central for replacement in my 70' vert. I was told by J&D Corvette, Bellflower CA that the replacement felts supplied after-market do not fit correctly. I have not verified this.

My experience with the door panel replacement felt has been frustrating. The clips/staples that hold the existing felt to the panel are incredibly difficult to remove. I gave up when I realized I had no way of attaching the new felts even if I was successful in removing the old. That is when I approached J&D to do the work.

The door felt is much easier to remove once you lower the window. It's held in with Phillips Head screws. Your comment on the new felt not fitting adds credence to J&D's comments.

Let me know how you make out. I've got $140 in new felts sitting in a box (another fine investment by yours truly...)

I did my '72 about 2 years ago with some from the same vendor and had the same problem. If I remember right, I could line them up so that the first and last one fit and most of the rest did too, only one was way off, and I cut it off and didn't use it. I can't remember for sure, but I think that's the way it went, the thin chrome strip had holes for the "pop ins" to go thru.

The ones from Corvette Central are FAR, FAR better than the other ones out there. Those have rubber, not correct felt, and are just crap. I ripped them off my 71 after a year and installed one of Corvette Central's first set of felt ones back in 1999. Now, I'm discussing the OUTER seals that attach to the door, not the ones on the panel.

On my car, only one of the "green" clips was not correctly aligned for the car. I removed the clip, moved it over (about 1/10 inch) and then used an awl to punch new holes in the trim retainer and then reinstalled the green clip. The whole unit then installed slick as could be.

Find out how to adjust the outer seal to get the "most" clips to match your holes, then move a clip or two if needed. What restoration part DOESN'T need some massaging? (unfortunately...)
