Default Carb/Intake Selection

Need to know if anyone has tried a Edlebrock Performer EPS dual plane manifold in the off-idle to 5500 rpm along with an Edelbrock Electric choke 600 cfm. I still have the stock manifold and quadrajet on my 79. I want something with a little more power without changing the cam. My vet starts to bog down when I really hammer it. Also, if I go with the Edelbrock, what about all the vaccum lines can they be capped without hurting the performance. Any Help Would Be Greatly Appreciated.

You won't get any greater performance with just a carb change. I recommend getting Lars' Q-Jet tuning paper from www.corvettefaq.com

For the bog problem, it probably just needs a small adjustment to the secondary air valve spring. Easy to do.

Here's my combo........

I've had the carb a few years now and just installed the manifold a few weeks ago. What a difference!

Changing the carb is vastly overrated. You've got the help you need right here to get the existing carb running right.

To get more power, you need to change your exhaust, heads and cam. (If you have an L82, you can keep the cam, but do something about the other two.)

A cam swap ain't the worst thing in the world. And heads are pretty straightforward, too.

I was just at the Lars tuning for beer world tour, and the first thing he always does, is adjust the timing. I would try this first.
email lars (V8fastcars@msn.com) with your specs, and maybe he can suggest a timing setup that would "wake up" your motor.
It's worth a try, and will give you some time to help you figure out what you want out of your motor.

Changed the carb and intake on my basically stock L48 and it made a big difference. See pics and info on webpage.

If you have a noticeable improvement doing a carb swap, it's likely because there was a problem with your stock carb. Replacing the carb and intake is an effective -- but pricey -- fix.

Carb problems are very common. Watching Lars during the Tuning for Beer Tour is awesome. On practically every car he did here in San Antonio, he found a fundamental problem that was seriously hampering performance...usually carb or distributor related...
