Balancer size question
I need to replace the balancer on my small block. The factory one is about 2 inch think and the rubber ring expands out the back and rubs on the cast timing cover, Will I have a problem using the narrow dampner about 1.25 inch on a 383 that was balanced when build. It has a 8 inch balancer on it now.....

I take it you are contemplating using a aftermarket balancer. The "hot-rod" and "heavy duty" factory motors all had the thick 8" balancers but, the smaller diameter and lighter aftermarket stuff will work well. I bought a 6.75" diameter balancer for my 383 project, just make sure you are buying one for a "street motor" and not something for a high RPM race engine.
