I own a 1980 vet, emissions inspection not required in nj registered as a historic vehicle. My egr valve is in closed position & diaphram leaks vacum so I plugged vac line going to it My smog pump is hooked up with fan belt intact. Can I just remove smog belt. Will this help or hurt performance( besides less drag on engine) can I leave my egr blocked off ? will this have an effect on drivability? This is not a show car but a fun driver for cruse nights. Any suggestions greatly appreciated
EGR is actually a good thing--it cools the combustion process--thus allowing you to set timing a couple of points higher--thus making the 'Vette go faster.

Gonna steal the thread for a moment. I have my EGR removed and plated off. All vaccum hoses capped off except for advance. The L-82 cannot be timed to 12 deg initial without pinging like mad. I have to retard to approx. 4 deg. for the engine to not pre-detonate. Any thoughts?
