Default Radiator Core Size

How do you determine the "core size" on a radiator? The 76 had two different sizes: 26" & 27". Do you just measure the radiator across (from tank to tank) and that is the size? Surely it can't be that simple

Where did you get your information concerning rad size?? According to my GM info, the rads were the same width. The L82 and AC cars used a 4 tube core rather than the base 3 tube core and held .5 Qt. more liquid. I had my '76 recored with a 4 tube core. Dimension between the intermost surfaces of the top mounting brackets is 27", this is the size of the core.

The simple part is - GETTING THE RIGHT DIMENSIONS, to start with. I am using my GM 1976 Corvette Specifications manual, available, still I think, direct from GM at no cost.

The dimesion difference is that one is early 76 and the other is late. I have a late car with the correct radiator support, but am trying to determine if I have the correct upper brackets and radiator (they don't seem to fit right). I have the early brackets (without shroud mount holes) and a radiator from Zip. Thanks for the dimension.

Another difference with the late 76, same as the 77, is the location of connectors for the automatic tranmission cooler. The later model also has a diiferent upper hose connector.
