has anyone installed a door handle repair spring from mid america motorworks? when I tried the spring snapped in half. it is just an "L"
shaped piece of spring steel.
The door handle helper springs is not a mystery. They are made from spring steel and if you pinch them to tight at the bend they will snap as would any spring steel part. There is a trick to installing these in the car. What you have to do is have a friend hold the lid of the handle down. Then pinch the spring with your index finger and thumb at the very end of the spring. Do not pinch them all the way down.. Then try to guide it over the spring in the hinge area. Once it start's going on the spring you push the end of it down right in the middle.
the first one i put in ,i had no problems but when it broke i bought another one and that one broke in half. So i salvage the spring of a old vette that the handle was broken but the sping was good.
I also tried the L Clip spring. It did not work, and I ended up taking the door handle off and fixing the spring on the handle.
If the door handle sags, then one possibility is the spring that is attached to the lever and the handle dish assembly. In my case the hook at one end was broken, and the spring end was straight and not catching anything. I bent the end 180 degrees, about 1/8 inch, with a pair of needle nose pliers, and hooked it back to the lever. It fixed the problem.
