broken passengers side stub axle?
hi, new to the forum but tinkereed with c3 vettes for years any ways picked up a pretty clean 1979l82 4spd, and popped off the wheels when I jacked up the car to put it on jack stands(TO INSTAL NEW CALIPERS.I found the right rear wheel saged very far I went over and pulled on it and found about 3 inches of play,top of wheel was leaning way out and almost felt disconnected . I pulled the rear differentail,thats a fun job!! and found the stub axle broken with a small portian with the clip on it still retained in the differentil, now I have removed the axle, MY QUESTION IS IS THIS A COMMON PROBLEM? AND IS THAT CLIP ON THE STUB AXLE ALL THAT HOLDS RR TRAILING ARM IN ALIGNMENT ON TOP. WHAT WOULD CAUSE THE STUB TO BREAK IN THIS MANNER. I would not be to concerned but after looking at the fiberglass just above the half shart I can see evidence of contact in the past.like it may have broken this part before. and wanted know if Imay be missing something ?
