Starter Bolt Length
I have an aftermarket small starter, not Tilton style. Purchased a set of ARP bolts and find I will get about 1/2" to 5/8" of thread engagement. Also, the knurled portion of the bolt is not in full contact with the mounting hole. It seems I need a slightly longer bolt.
ARP makes longer bolts, almost 3/4" longer, which is too long. Stock ARP bolt length is 3.700.
Am I again being paranoid or is 1/2" to 5/8" engagement of the starter bolts o.k.?

Someone had mentioned at one time that 5 threads is all that is needed. I would feel good if there are 7 threads. If you think about it, a nut for that size bolt would only be 1/2" to 5/8". The only time more threads would be needed is when the treads are in bad condition. If you were able to torque them at the proper ft/lb., I would leave it as is.
