Car is starting to act weird. Took it for a test drive yesterday (new brake line, new fuel pump S-hoses). Ran OK initially then would not hold an idle. It surges a bit then slowly drops in RPM till it dies.
Found distributor rotated (too much advance, 20+ degrees ). Fixed that so that I have a full 36 centifugal all in by 2800 rpm. Hopefully, I did no damage with it over advanced (didn't hear anything but can't hear much over the pipes anyway).
Considering moving my vac advance from ported to manifold vacuum. Wondering if I need to tweak the idle screws as well.
I guess the only good thing is that Lars will be here in 2 1/2 weeks.
For the meantime, any suggestions welcome.
Carb is rebuilt/rejetted Q-Jet. No smog. Cam is a Crane HR276 with 214/222 @.050 (pretty mild).
I don't have any symptoms of fuel starvation but I'll check anyway. Another thing I read today (from Lars) is that my new base gasket may not be sealing all the vacuum passages. So I'll have to check that too.
No vac leaks. Gasket is good. Put in a new fuel filter. Richened idle mixture a little.
Switched from ported to manifold vacuum for the vac advance and it seems to be running better with no surging or stalling. I'll leave it like that Lar's gets here in June.
