well, i need to take off the steering column metal cover so i can clean and paint them.... is it possible... also, how do i take the trun signal/wiper levers off......
Turn signal levers on 1969 through 1976 standard (non-adjustable) steering columns are held in place by a screw. You must remove the steering wheel and hub to get at the screw.
T&T steering columns from 1969 through 1976 have a turn signal lever with threads on the end. It screws directly into a post inside the column head.
1977 and later columns have a plug-in lever. Just pull straight out on the lever.
The entire column head can be disassembled if you want. I am not sure as to what cover you are refering to. There are complete disassembly instructions posted at www.corvettefaq.com
Select Standard or T&T Steering Column; download Papers #1, #2, & #3; then download Pics #1, #2, & #3. There is a blowup picture available for either steering column as well.
