Default Temp Sender?

Well...I did it! Traded my '89 for a '77. Looks like my temp gage is way off. Went into the red last night...but it didnt puke anything. I used one of those laser temp gismos and it said 200-220F at the upper radiator hose and thermo housing.

Does anyone have a chart of resistance and temp values for the sensor. If they appear to be correct, I will have to assume Bubba played with the gage needle.

try this: http://www.corvettefaq.com/

Also, maybe the system just needs belching if you have air trapped in it, get the engine hot and take a bunch of rags and slowly open the radiator cap, if you hear any churning or rumbling type of noises as you open the cap it's air in the system, once it makes it's way out past the cap, close it, drive a little, then do it again til you hear no more sounds from the system. You can also see if ther is gunk built up on the temp sender.

I don't recommend opening the rad cap...it's dangerous.

Here is what I do when filling coolant: top up rad then squeez the upper rad hoze a few times, let it sit for a few seconds and repeat multiple times. You will hear air escaping and fluid level will go down. Top off fluid and repeat until necessary. This usually brings all air up from the system.

Play safe, don't get burned with hot coolant...not worth it.

That's what the rags are for, you don't take the cap off just loosen it then tighten it back down.

Or replace the cap with one with a lever release on it.
