Default Water Temp Gage

Does anyone know where the sensor is for the water temp gage? Is it the one that is on the front left side of the engine block?

That's where it's supposed to be, but mine wound up being in the rear of the passenger side head. Joe

On my 79, the one on the passenger side controls the electric fan.

Is this an easy replacement. Are there any tricks, or can I just swap out with new?

the replacement is easy.

If you need any kind of accuracy (like for bracket racing) consider changing to an Autometer mechanical temp guage. It will come with the sender at the end of a thick-wire-sized tube. I'm running the mechanical guage AND the factory guage and you won't believe the difference in the accuracy of the mechanical guage.
