Default fuel pump push rod

ok so i have an electric fuel pump now and i am going to be puting the block off plate on the where the manual pump goes but befor i do i was wanting to know if i can leave the pump rod in to keep that area from filling with oil or do i have to take it out?

I don't see where it would ever cause a problem, but I also don't see any good reason to leave it in there.

I just installed a blockoff and took the rod out.
No Problems.

there is a hole at the bottom of that area that allows drainback to the sump - so i wouldnt worry about it
