More horsepower.....I've got a 72 with the base engine and I'm at the point of getting a new exhaust and want to know more about headers and bigger pipes.
If I get headers for my car, doesn't the exhaust port on the head limit the size of the header? Is there an advantage to getting wider headers if the port on the heads is only 1 5/8"? Or do I just get 1 5/8 headers and run the rest of the exhaust at 2.5 or 3? I've found systems that are made for our cars, but different years/engines. I'm wondering if I can just mount up a 2.25 systems to my car when I add headers. I'd like to do it myself and I know that welding is the way to go, but I'm not sure I'll do it right away as I'm going to do some engine work next year. Budget is wide open.
You might want to consider a 2.5" system because it will leave you ample room to grow. As far as header primary size, on a 350ci motor that doesn't see much time above 7000rpm a 1-5/8 primary will work fine.
You can buy your bends from Summit as I think their prices are pretty good.
hey not2new72, if you wanna really wake up the neighbors, go with headers and undercar chambered exhaust...that'll do it
You've got a 454 don't you? I'm looking for a pretty stock system...just bigger. You know as Lars put it, "I've got the "Caprice station wagon mufflers" on it. I don't want to blow out the neighborhood, but I want a little rumble.
Can I just get a pair of headers that attach to a bigger stock type exhaust? I don't want to get into welding and fitting up a ton of peices.
yes roy i have a BB with undercar chambered, its fine when cruisin but a nice growl when you mash into it... infact my radio stopped workin and i haven't even bothered with trying to fix it. the exhaust is music to my ears.
