Default 700R4 swap

Ok. I have a 77 with a 350, and a 350 turbo tranny. I also have 4:11's.
Have been hearing about the 700R4 swap. I really like the sound of another gear. Would love to get the rpms down on the highway but I really don't want to change the gears and loose the quickness. Have done search's but can't find a thread on exactly what is need to do the swap from start to finish. Which tranny, extra parts etc..
Thank you for any help and info.
And be easy on the newbie. LOL

Think about using a 200R4 instead. It has a better 1st to 2nd gear ratio and is the same length as your TH350, so you can use your original drive shaft. you will need to relocate the transmission mount, but that is a simple task.

With a 4.11 rear, the 1st gear in the 700R4 is so low it's virtually unusable. The 200-4R has gears more similar to the TH350.

If you had a 3.08 rear, I'd suggest the 700R4 for the same reasons...

i can't imagine the first gear in a 700r4 with 4.11s.....i picked the 700r4 specifically for the steep first gear with my 3.08s

I've had 4.11 and 700R4 for the last 17 or so years and over 100,000 miles. 3.90 is about optimum. 3.08 is only for people that probably road the the short bus to school

Ya, your right Bob. I shouldn't get down on special Ed people. We do need unskilled labor willing to work for less than minimum wage. I hire tham all the time at my body shop. If you overpay them they don't show up for work the next day.

It’s actually a great day. Not a cloud in skies high 80’s and I’m having a BBQ party at noon. Probably 40-50 people will show up from all over. I gave everybody here the rest of the day off. So they can get started on the big weekend early. I have my old Vette gassed up and T-tops off. I’m taking the mountain road cruise down to near Yosemiti National park for the annual Strawberry Festival. It’s only about 200 miles away. Nothing like covering a ladies bare chest with cut up strawberrys and whipped cream and licking it off.

Rod - I saw that you had a birthday recently! I'm 100% with you on younger women and strawberries. I’ve always liked younger women. It seems like women my age and older smell funny and they are falling apart and I just turned 48.

You forgot to tell everybody that you have 3.73 and a 700R4 - Definately management material.

The real 4 day party started yesterday. Near Yosemiti National park California for the annual Strawberry Festival. It's a little spendy $50 per day per person, live bands about 12 hours a day. I'm meeting up with a group that's already there in their motor homes and campers.

Todays work party - I'm a part owner of a custom body shop.

George, I'm at that Director level and can't share any information. As you and I have discussed before with the 700R4 go with the 3.90s, but don't tell anyone. Have fun licking your strawberries Rod

I have a 700r4 and I'm happy with it. It has 3.36s now but I'm going to 3.70s. I've also heard a lot about the 2004r being significantly lighter. From what I found on the web...

2004r is 132lbs
700r4 is 155lbs
