Default A little hood help needed

I finally got my hood unstuck and now I need to line up the locking/unlocking brackets with the hood. I have tried several times but it keeps getting stuck and I have to pop it open again. Anyone know any tricks to this? The cables, springs, and mechanisms all seem to be good. How much movement do you need to unlock the drivers side on the hood (upper) bracket? Mine move about 0.5". Is this enough?
TIA

to line up the brackets : mark 2center lines on the pin and the lock with white out or something else that can be seen easily. mark a center line so you can see it from the side and another that you can see looking forward from the back of the hood.

lower the hood and adjust it untill both of these ines line up

So the white grease is used to indicate alignment - right ?

Some might interpret that as "just grease it up".

Has anyone tried leaving the pins bolted down loosely, so that
they can slide around - then closing the hood with the lock held open ?
I thought this might center the pins in the lock holes ... then
carefully lift the hood and tighten the pin brackets.

I haven't found any procedure in the AIM yet.

Good luck ... and let us know what worked for you.

after having the same problem i resolved it by opening up the "circled" end of the hood catch so that i could move it around a little more on the hood. maybe not conventional but it worked.

I put a piece of duct tape over the receiver latch and put a little grease on the hood pin. I lowered it slowly to leave a make on the tape and if it was not exactly center it would loosen the 2 nuts on the receiver latch to align it to center and do it all over again till the hood pins align exactly center on the tape and then it worked great. You really have to be exactly center to have to work.

You can use 2" masking tape over the hood pin receivers, when you lower the hood the pins break a small hole in the tape and by the hole you move the receiver to align everything and tighten the bolts, very easy to do......
